a picture might help?

Why have you used a fused socket for a light?

or have you used an fcu?

I would guess you have reversed the connections from the mains supply and the appliance connected to it it.

There is usually a set labelled Feed and a set labelled Load - the Feed is your incoming and the Load is the wires to your appliance. Check they are that way round
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

It needs fixing as you do not know when the applicance connected to it is switched on or off and so it is potentially dangerous.

Is this a wind up?

Nobody is that stupid

If it is lit up all the time you do not know if it is switched on or off do you?

If you "think" it is switched off and try and repair the machine you may be electrocuted.

ok, the feed and load wires are the wrong way around.

They should be swapped so that they are the correct way around, so that the neon light goes off when the switch is in the off position

i'm sorry i have just realised, i can solve your problem in one go: -

change the switch to one without a neon on then you won't know at all

..........hang on

TOP means towards the ceiling
Locked
