Table Saw
Hi - I'm about to build a surround for a side-by-side fridge/freezer so I will need to cut some big pieces of wood. This is probably going to be a one off exercise (well a couple of other small projects plus whatever the Missus finds me to do!) so I don't want to invest in anything expensive. Don't really want to rely on a jigsaw as I don't think I could cut a 6 foot length of wood totally straight using it. So I was thinking of a table saw. Any recommendations on a particular model ?

How about a circular saw, you should be able to get a good straight cut with one.

Thanks for the useful comments. I was thinking of this http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro ... 2&id=98020.
As you've suggesting a circular saw would be better do you have a specfic model in mind, from experience.
Thanks again.

This is a good quality saw at a decent price- http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro ... 3&ts=78473
If you are only going to use it a couple of times you might be better off with someting like this- http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro ... 0&ts=78557 for less than £20.00 this is a throw away tool, if it breaks you can throw it away.
The Makita one should last the average person a lifetime
