I also find them hit and miss, I have had some terrible tools that weren't as sturdy as the cardboard they came in and I have also have some really good value quite well made tools that are plenty good enough for DIY and probably trade too. Same goes for companies like Am-Tech, Dekton and Blackspur, though Blackspur it is rare to find something good I have to say.

silverline are like many other makers geared for the diy market they are fine for occassional use but if used every day they will wear out or fail quicker than a top of the range item -the way to go as i see it is to buy the economy tools and if you find you are using them a lot then upgrade to a better tool i know lots of people who bought heaps of top class tools only to have only used a percentage of them the rest are hardly used -----i have sockets that have never left the box those i use are replaced with top of the range stuff ...works for me
