Estate/Letting agent fees
Went to look at a house this afternoon, a private rent through an agent.
Made me cough when he was explaining the fees they charge!
£100, towards the setup, plus £75 per applicant for refrences, then a further £60 checkout fee for the end of the contract.
Everytime its rewnewed, another £60
Then if a guarantor is required, a further £50 refrence fee for them.
Then plus one months rent in advance, then one months rent plus 100 for the deposit.
So if we get it, i need to give them well over £1200

What agency is that with?
I rented a place down here when first moved down and not sure if I paid anything other then a month up front as a deposit, plus the month rent in advance.
Maybe a credit check fee of £100, but nothing else?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

They are thieving gits for sure, I had to put down a deposit of £950, plus two months rent, two bed flat with garage £625, and thier fees which came to £180, and now my first 6 months is up they want £60 just to re-issue another 6 moth lease. Have spoken to the owner direct and between us we have agreed a 12 month contract so it will save some money.

Estate agents are thieving barst**ds. When we moved here I used two agents to sell the old house and because they had both been sole agents at different times they both tried to claim full fees. The people that bought our house had seen it through the first agent and then bought it through the second one.
A couple of letters from my solicitor soon put the agents right and I deducted the briefs fees from the agents commission.

hitch letting agents are no better for landlords, last year i had to pay 12.5% of the rent (+vat on top), + half a months "finders fee". It amounted to about £1800 over the year.
And for that, they do f*ck all. If the tenant doesn't pay, tough, your problem. If they can't find anyone to rent it, tough, your problem. And they hold the deposits so are making the interest on that. Robbing bastards
