Love the "aluminium salmonella strips"dirtydeeds wrote:teabag
if they are "joined" with the aluminium salmonella strips it is possible
but with masons mitres the joints are glued, masticed, bonded or epoxied
all the other options about gap filling are covered

Quick question on worktop joining - are the same style of joins with the curved mitres used for Solid Wood worktops when you need to join at right angles or are they usually just butted together like Granite would be?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

dirtydeeds...
thanks for the heads up i wonderd what i was doing all week...
My Occupation is worktops, I cut custom shaped tops, edge them, custom cut for inset postforms glue them in color fill, cut custom joint confurations. all as part of my job for for hundreds of shops and companies and all over the UK. which are delivered ready for the fitter to install.
Some times the obvious is missed....
next time I'l keep my novice opinions to myself
Jenny hope all works out for you, the company i work for also does upstands, we cut to the size required in height, we have many in stock, depending on the manufacturer of the worktop, but they are prob dearer than BnQ.
ps if you need a color fill to match, pm me and il try to give you the info required for the best one, as the one recomended isnt always the best color match avaliable.

teabag, im reading all this but cant see whether you have actually, for all your obvious experience, come up with a solution that hasnt already been said.
unless im missing something, if you post how knowledgable you are and what experience you have i was waiting for some magic answer.
i'll make a note for next time.....
very experienced and keen with his cv but his answers are somewhat hiding

I had edited my post as you were replying to it panlad, un knowinly.
this is my original reply from page 1.
hence my reply, i know what and how things are done...
and looking back I still dont see anywhere it says it was all jointed and glued and bolted together until after I asked! thankyou Jenny for clearing that up.
there is no magic answer thats cost effective... its a case of do the best you can with the budget avaliable and hopfully make it look goodenough to be happy with.

I was just replying to dirtydeeds who was explaining to me about joints in tops, which I dont recall asking for.... and all points about gap filling are covered.Im assuming the worktops have joints in, and are bolted together?
I havent seen anyone ask "cant they be removed and scribed" ?
guess you could use tile trim to hide the gap if need be, depending on the length of run... comes in many colours.

Which could have been the best option, most people just jumped in 2 feet first. but hey its a forum what else do we expect...unless im missing something, if you post how knowledgable you are and what experience you have i was waiting for some magic answer.

Hello all
I'm so glad someone mentioned 'upstands' I didn't even know there was such a thing. Now they are on they look great. Here is a little picture.

(please don't mention the socket too close to the hob
and the upstand is a slightly darker than the worktop.
