Re: Lidl 16th March offers
Going to pick myself up one of the angle grinders, been meaning to do so for ages, my fixed speed grinders are just too fast for my wire wheels and sanding pads.

Re: Lidl 16th March offers
Lidl started selling them a few years back. I use an angle grinder a lot more for wire brushing and sanding than actual cutting/grinding and sometimes it is just too fast, it destroys the sanding discs or burns the work and my big cup brush terrifies me when working on smaller items. Variable speed would definitely be a useful thing to have for me.fin wrote:never seen a grinder with a variable speed before... mad

Variable speed < grinder. ...
I got one from Lidl some years ago - very useful in the same type of situations as described by Rorschach ...

Re: Lidl 16th March offers
Around about this time of year Lidl normally have one of their offers that have a battery drill, cordless circular saw and jigsaw that all share the same battery. I've been waiting for that to come up again but maybe it will come up later in the year this time around.
I know it's not the best battery life for this type of kit but it will do for the sort of jobs that I get given.

I've been put off Parkside power tools since I was told you can't upgrade the amperage of their batteries without also buying a new charger.

I suppose the nearest thing to the Lidl offering is the Ryobi range, I'm sure they are fine but I don't know anyone that has a set or what they are like.

Re: Lidl 16th March offers
Picked up my angle grinder this morning, looks good. Feels comfy in the hand, nice narrow handle that i can get my hands around securely, trigger feels ok, speed control easy to move with my thumb during use. At slowest speed it feels very safe with a wire brush but still seems to have a good bit of torque if you don't push it hard.
This one will be used just for wirebrushing and sanding, i'll use other grinders for cutting/grinding tasks that need the higher speed since they are easier to replace if they burn out.

Re: Lidl 16th March offers
They had a very robust looking 16v drill recently for £30. Was so tempted to buy it but it's 2v less than what I already have. I dont get the point of these lighter voltage tools. I have 18v and I would say that's the minimum for effective work.London mike 61 wrote:Around about this time of year Lidl normally have one of their offers that have a battery drill, cordless circular saw and jigsaw that all share the same battery. The lidl 16v was a lot lighter and compact than what I have though - tempting.

I suppose anything lighter than a standard 18v drill would suit a woman or someone who had arms like toothpicksThe lidl 16v was a lot lighter and compact than what I have though - tempting.
