Why have the switch?

This is where you can post pictures of extremely poor workmanship, whether it is done by a dodgy tradesman or by an incompetent DIY'er. Instructions on how to post pictures can be found in here.

Why have the switch?

Post by idkhow2diy »

We have a few of these around the place at work, all marked 'do not turn off' in marker pen. The pic is of the fridge spur. Another runs the door entry system and there appears to be no key option (large glass magnetic locked door with no obvious key hole)

The fridge got switched off one day because a box had been pushed up against the switch. The box was moved away but made its way back. So the switch now sports the plastic ex-food tray as a box deterrent.

But why the switch? I can understand the need for isolation but this just switches a 13A socket under the counter.

Yeah, good grouting too...

Simple really. Allows the electricity to be isolated by the SFCU in the event of a fault without moving the appliance.

Good practice.

I'd have used these, saves the switch getting knocked.... http://www.screwfix.com/p/13a-fused-con ... hite/3524d

BG yeah that's what I'd expect.

Wine~o ok so why not put it up high? I can imagine it in a domestic setting (especially useful to isolate under counter dryers) but not a busy office kitchen where people simply don't care.

Anyway, not really a rogue then!

Done like because someone couldn't be bothered to come up with a better idea I guess. Several ways you could have isolation without the risk of accidental switching.
