Do I need to use topsoil or just lay turf

I bought a new build several years ago. I have a front garden which is approximately 15-20m wide and 2 metres deep, separated by a small path in the middle to the front door. The garden was originally bark some bushes scattered throughout.

I have since removed all this and am left with a mixture of mainly soil with some stones scattered throughout.

My question is do I really need t use a topsoil or something else prior to laying turf? Any other suggestions?

Break up the surface really well and mix in a couple of bales of peat and get it all level. Chuck some slow release fertiliser down, give it a soak and lay the turf. The peat will hold moisture and encourage root growth.

Yes as with DWD, but you need to at least fork it over to remove any builders rubble (fork depth) or you will have patches appear later on.
