What are good drought resistant shrubs and plants

I am seeking to make garden maintenance easier by planting drought resistant shrubs and plants ( including ground cover and herbs ) so that I can reduce the amount of time watering in hot spells of weather - particularly as we now have nobody who can water the garden for us when we go away on holiday
Any suggestions would be much appreciated

Mulching is a must for water retention and to cut down on weeds

Herbs sage, thyme oregano, chives, rosemary, lavender, lovage, I never water these they seem to do well

Thank you so much - brilliant - I have looked at all the links which provide all the information which I need and I take the point about mulcing to help with water retention and suppressing weeds
Herbs will be good too as my wife is keen on cookery - we have some already but not all of them

I looked up a bit of info about the Saguaro cactus yesterday, (before deciding not to post a pic of one)

They take about ten years to get to one inch high, and throw out the first side branch at about 100 years old - so it's a long long wait for a biggie.

No, I hadn't realised either how old they were to get to that size.

Just thought of another one, rhubarb had some this morning, drought tolerant grows quickly crowds weeds out. Timperley early commonest ok but not very red stems other varieties are strawberry, the sutton, cawood

I am too long in the tooth to wait for Saguaro cactus to grow - wrong side of 75
I am assembling some of the drought resistant plants referred to in the links
We already have some of the varieties
On looking around the garden I can see that the plant in the attached photo is drought resistant - we inherited it - can anyone tell me what it is please

it also appears in a pale pink variety in many parts of the garden
It is very drought resistant which is exactly what I need
