Clearance to neighbours fence

Post by nincompoop »

Hello

Had a complaint from my neighbour about our patio touching his gravel boards  We have a raised patio so it's against the top of his gravel boards but not cemented to them or anything. He seems to believe that we have to leave a 2 inch clearance and is going to get a solicitor etc. I wouldn't mind clearing a space as it does look like his gravel boards are cracking but the way that he's threatened me has put my back up a bit.

Is there such a law about having a 2 inch clearance? I always believed that my garden was my garden

Photo below. (Excuse the mess)

Thanks

He's talking b*llocks, let him waste his money on a solicitor, you can build right up to your boundary line.

How long has it been raised ?? looks like a good few years, tbh the fence looks to be at the end of its life, is the idiot wanting you to pay for it ?

next door to us is 12-18" lower that's paved up to the fence line

just a thought
is it his fence or a shared fence??
are the posts fully on his land??
you cannot go on his land without permission as in the nearest 25mm may be his
turn it on its head and ask him to remove the boards away from your land if its a problem
we are all ------------------still learning

The 2" clearance rule is common knowledge.............to 1 person only, your neighbour

What an idiot! -is he going to get a 2" injunction against you

Be careful you might end up with a garden fence ASBO

I'm certainly not aware of any law along those lines. A gravel filled gap would be useful if the fall on the patio is that direction as it would allow rainwater to drain off more easily.
