Finish around wood burning stove
Post by 54aardvark »
Got a job coming up soon, finishing plasterwork around a woodburning stove. there is a large recess and the clients want a flat finish on the returns, leaving the brickwork exposed at the back, it is a small stove and has clearance of 450mm either side and 1200mm vertically. Due to the brickwork I plan to dot & dab the returns and make good onto the existing wall.
Question is, can I use pink heat resistant plasterboard on the returns or should I go for the fire resistant fibreboard which is a bit more difficult to source in this part of the world.

Sorry, it seems Mr. Stove hasn't logged in for a while. A shame as the only reason this part of the forum was created was to answer questions regards Stoves.54aardvark wrote:Thanks Mod2, only discovered Stoves after I'd posted

Without seeing the job it is very difficult to say but probably fire resistant fireboard or just plastering with limstone.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that, got the job done this week and erred on the side of caution using the fire board (nae cheap!) but came up a treat, clients happy and confident that its safe.

Personally I think you have made the right choice - very safe and the client is happy. If you ever want to discuss any other stove related issues please feel free to give us a shout.
