Plant in my garden

I have this plant growing (see photo) in my garden and it seems to be spreading.

It is unable to support itself and I am having to buy support frames to assist.

Does anybody know what it is? - and how do I care for it?

It looks like a variety of Bamboo. Not an expert but I think you have to watch teh spread if it is.

99.9% sure that a crocosmia.. not a bamboo but part of the iris family; AKA montbretia.

Looks like Montbretia to me too, as for care, it's virtually indestructible, just leave it alone.

Another vote for Montbretia. They spray it on the cliffs down here as it's become invasive.

Thank You - yes it is Montbretia - I have been surfing the net once I received your answers.

One site however says it is an offence to plant ,or to allow to escape to adjacent land or into the wild.

What confuses me is that it seems to be readily for sale including in the RHS website!

Montbretia is a rampant "weed" that will /can do some damage : Crocosmia is a cultivar of Montbretia that is less invasive.

Not to sure how to post the link - but if you Google the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 section 9 it is listed.

The site I was looking at is Invasive Weed Solutions.

I have dug up one of the many Montbretia plants.

In fact, in consisted over 100 separate corms for 1 small plant - or was it 100 plants to start with!

They can start off from just one corm. I'll bet you left at least one corm in the ground where you dug it from and you'll see another one growing there by next spring.

I've dug up loads of them over the years and I don't think I've ever removed the whole plant first time.

Yes I seemed to be constantly finding another corm as I dug and sifted through the soil and this was a relatively small plant!

I will await next year!
