Artificial Grass

Hi all,

I've just had some artificial grass laid and thought I'd share the experience with you.

We live in an area with soil that's rich with clay, making drainage of water quite difficult. We had the garden landscaped about 18 months ago, but the landscapers didn't do any kind of preparation of the top soil before laying the turf. As a result, any heavy rain just sits on top of the grass and despite our best efforts the garden turned to mud this winter.

So yesterday we had some different landscapers come and dig out the old turf, lay some sharp sand and stone and then some artificial grass over the top. After months of living with a swamp, we're very pleased to finally have a green, mud-free area out the back. Before and after pictures included. (The before picture really doesn't do it justice, it was truly horrible and very muddy!)

So does anyone else have any experience with artificial grass? Any tips or advice?

Yes, when your dog has a w** run outside with a bucket of water and throw it on the patch. if you don't it will smell very bad.

Sell your lawn mower.

The amount of gardens I’ve been with artificial turf that stink of dogs pish is unreal.

That certainly looks better. Small areas of grass are a pain in the backside anyway IMHO. It's not worth putting a lot of effort into them because they are only small and once you've started the mower up its almost time to put it away again which means they don't get cut often cause you can't be bothered.

Get a good quality dog urine neutralizer solution for use on the artificial, don't be tempted by all those tips about using baking soda or vinegar etc online, just go for the chemicals the kennels and such like use.

mike10, completely agree about the small grass areas. Out the front we have a smaller patch, probably 2m or 3m squared. I used to mow the back lawn and think "sod it" to the front for the reasons you described! lol
