laptop running hot (CPU?)

First thing to check is...... Does the temp ramp up if you just leave it in the bios at idle - if it does see below - if not it may be a windows issue with a process maxing out the cpu in the background



I see this on a regular basis the heatsink will be bunged up with fluff and fine dust you will not blow it out, open up the laptop (full strip down)

remove the heat pipe off the motherboard clean the old dry compound off with ipa, put on some fresh and make sure its the Non- conductive stuff

If its not fluff, it will be the fan - the fan may work at full speed but at lower speeds it will stall as the voltage/current is not enough to turn the fan

its a cheap fix and a few hours for a novice

Full strip down and replacement of heat sink putty done. still running upper 50's until I followed this..

Is it running windows 10? have you upgraded to windows 10 if so it might possibly be another potential cause to rule out before disassembling

Followed that and disabled some stuff. now happily running at under 50 degrees even under high load.

so seems to have been dried out compound and windholes running background crap.

Just one more thing... what do I do with the leftover screw????

Them ???? there's only one and it's 2.5mm thread x 2mm length... couldn't get the bugger in no matter hoe hard I tried.
