OchAye wrote:Battery is a tad expensive, I guess for a Yaris at that price it would have a 5 year warranty (another story what is the warranty worth). MOT and tow fees are very reasonable which leaves you with the starter motor. If it needed one, then I don't think you got much to complain about.
That's what i thought. Sounds reasonable. The prices are presumably for fitting as well. I don't know about the Yaris, but some starters are very difficult to get at.
It's a fair comment about the brakes I'd have thought.
The guy isn't obliged to tell you what he paid for the parts. He will get trade from somewhere for the amount of business he does. He's entitled to make a profit.

I'm willing to bet that you'll have more trouble with the car as time goes on, due to it being unused so much.

Thanks once again everyone.
It's very reassuring to have this forum to discuss this with as you all would have owned plenty of cars in your lifetimes and have plenty of experience.

The other thing that mechanic stressed is that despite the cheaper costs of public transport, its probably time to start driving the car a bit more often, as, like you have all said. car dont like just sitting on a driveway all year round.

£95 is about right £80 plus fitting, battery companies raise there prices in oct/nov and drop them back down in march

Jap designed cars use some oddball batteries iirc the Yaris uses a 079 or 063

Atleast it isn't a newer yaris 2014 onwards some use a AGM battery, the cheap end starts and £160 if you want a branded battery anything up to £550, the starter price is about right - some cars can be a right pig to change the starter

At the of the day he has to make money and warranty his work for a year, a garage will charge you retail prices for parts so 15-50% markup - its what makes the world go round

063 is a pretty common battery, it's what is in my focus. I paid £29.49 delivered and fitted it myself. 4 year warranty though to be honest battery warranties are pretty much a waste of time.
