Rowan Williams and Shariah Law

Post by Mooncat »

What did you think about the Archbishop Rowan Williams and his suggestion that we adopt Shariah Law in the UK? My opinion is this: If you want to live here, accept our legal system and procedures. Otherwise go and live in a country where your beliefs are mainstream.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

I agree that if you live here then you abide by our laws or leave.
He's not a politician, so I'm not bothered by any of his ideas.

I think that religion in general was only started to frighten the masses into submission, sadly the fairytale continues. If you look back in history the biggest bloodshed was caused in the name of religion.

I can see it comeing to pass, trouble will really start when they face looseing body parts, they will want to senteced by 'our' laws.

If they coose to live that way, fine, just don't start 'cherry picking' what laws you want to obey and be judged by.
I wish I was born rich..............instead of just good looking!!!

IMHO all organised religion should be banned and religious teaching restricted to the home. Religion breeds, and sometimes, teaches hatred but, it seems again, Britain will kow tow to these fanatical nutters!.. :angryfire:

I agree. :thumbright: My children are learning about religions from around the World and they have decided that it's all madness and they're at primary school.

Have you ever thought that it's supposed to be normal to talk to 'God' and to have him answer but in any other situation if you hear voices you're likely to either get sectioned or get medication!

I'm all for chopping the hands of thieves off. And hanging murderers. But I don't think Rowan Atki erm I mean Williams had that in mind. You could have more than one wife & if the first didn't go along with it, divorce her.

I worked with a bloke who got a job in Iran (before the ayatollas took over) & we joked about this because he was an ugly bu99er. Low & behold he changed his religion and got himself a second wife. Brought her back to England & introduced her to his first wife. His méage à trois didn't last long. His first wife divorced him pdq.

There would be a slight difficulty solving some of the family problems the archbishop did mention. Both sides could be winners, choosing Sharia or common law to suit their case.

Religion really is pants.

I just have no time for it whatsoever.

apart from psalm 23, well I like one line from it-

though I should walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil

The only good thing about religion is the Moral Code that gets instilled in us at school regarding how we treat others. Some of the 10 Commandments are just common sense, although I can't say that I've ever coveted my neighbour's ass!
