Dates on powdered materials - grout.

Now I know that plaster is dated and if used too old, goes off too quick - as does filler, which isn't dated. I also know that builders merchants do not accept returns of powdered materials such as lime & cement, presumably because they don't know how it has been stored.

I'm about to return two bags of Mapei grout to S/Fix as not required on the job, well within their 30 day refund scheme (I don't expect any issue there) but I notice that one bag carries the date 17.12.17, the other is not visible, as on both bags the S/Fix label is stuck over the manufacturers printing.

Does grout go off? Not that I actually need to care.

Grout does go off as it's cementatious, (SP ?) but screwfix don't normally quibble about returns.

generally anything in a foil bag will last 2 years from production date and 1 year if its in a paper one
