Any one else had it yet? taken ages to do

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Re: win 10 2018 update
Yes, it took a while for me too, probably about 20mins in total. I suppose it depends on whether you compare it to a routine update, or what once would have been called a service pack, which used to be a fairly major thing.
IMO though, it would be nice to be offered a choice of how to receive & install the update; the previous spk method was more workable in some cases. A relative of mine lives in a village where broadband technically happens, but its stretching a point to call it that... He has an old-ish but still quite powerful workstation, yet the last major update (creators edition?) took nearly 17hours...

Re: win 10 2018 update
I got my son to build my current PC just in time to still be able to buy Win 7, (at his suggestion, I'm not that clued up).
I was still using XP up to then.
I didn't like the sound of Win 10, and still don't.
Eventually I'll have to move on, but it will be put off for as long as possible, and I guess it won't be Win 10 by then.

One day it will all be firewood.

Re: win 10 2018 update
I think you still get security patches until the end of next year for win7, so no immediate need to upgrade if all is working okay.
Win10 has many things i don't like, and numerous things I have no interest in using, though there are a few elements that seem improved. It is also fairly different to win7, so takes some acclimatising and customisation. But having made the slightly thorny transition, it is certainly not the terrible thing that win8 was when first released.

Re: win 10 2018 update
win 10 is less resource hungry, never found a issue moving from win 7 to 10, yes it needs a few tweeks to get it right for you, doesn't everything in life
As for the update, 2 min shutdown, 3-4 mins to install/setup, the update adds some useful items this time

I think the Win10 software update loaded itself but I had to restart to install. It took just under an hour to install but seems okay now.

Re: win 10 2018 update
Slow and massive updates are really the only complaint I have with 10.

Rolled back my windows server as the update screwed up my LAN connections. I guess it is relating to a security patch but didn’t have time to figure it out!

Mine must have taken hours. Seriously. It asked to download over night, so i let it. In the morning pc was off, so I assumed it was all done. Switched on in the evening and it said installing updates do not switch off and i watched (on and off) the original star trek, and it still wasn't quite finished. When it did finish it asked a bunch of questions, can't remember exactly, but things like allow to share your location, (like mobiles do) and other "pointless" stuff, most of which i said NO to.

Re: win 10 2018 update
Yep got caught on vacation, limited hotel wifi, so it took about 2 hours, I chose to delay by not yet but after repeat requests opened options which gave about 5 future days which did not suit me either and then it would not let me undo the start now option, had to lock in my sit case half open to Not Switch Off and go to lunch. On re boot had many options for voice recognition apps, did not activate any!
