Cut through tv aerial

Post by luba »

Hi

Trimming some shrubs, cut through the cable running up the side of my house to the roof aerial. I've been advised to connect the cut cable using external coaxial joint box for TV/DAB/FM aerial. Having stripped back the cable I have the core wire and the thin braided wires. Do I attach them all to the terminal connections, just the core? Any help much appreciated!

Thanks.

You connect the core to the core and the braid to the braid, neither one touches the other.

I can't comment on your junction box as I don't know which you have, but what I have said is true.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

This is the junction box, photo from the seller's website. Would I just screw the core of the cable to the connectors?

TBH can't really tell from that picture, but I would guess the silver part at the bottom of the box is a "clamp" to secure the cable and also to connect to the braid (only) This being the case then yes, connect the core to each terminal. (But only strip the end of the core just enough to go into the terminal.)

Thanks. Yes the silver piece is to hold the cables in place.
