time lapse pictures and video

I am going to start work soon on a building project. I want to make a time lapse picture video of the works.

so far I am under the impression to its a cctv camera and a home computer and software to take a picture every so often.

Budget is cheap cheap.

could a cctv dvr be a better option but do they take pictures rather than video.

Whats the easy idiot way to do this

from research I see suggestions of 10 to 14 frames per second, that's 3 to 5 minutes of video per week

a day is 10 hours so I am looking at
360 seconds of video for a weeks work equals roughly 5000 pictures in a week,

I don't want to cut and paste 5000 pictures individually each week into a video programme

You must have missed the 'cheap, cheap' part of the OP's post........

I have a very old (relatively speaking) journey recording camera that can be set to take a picture every whatever-seconds up to the limit if the battery life and the SD card capacity. I use it to monitor our hens to see where they find escape routes from their pens! IIRC it was the princely sum of £20 when I got it and I reckon such things are still out there now although you WILL have to fit an external battery capable of powering it for as long as you need it to run - which I had to do.

Might be an idea to browse banggood or alibaba to see if they still have them.

A action camera will do the job - cctv with record all the time or on movement then your have to edit down all the footage what will take a age - pc based recording is very resource hungry and the machine is likely to fail due to window not handling the encoding 24/7, it will also munch older hardrives too

there are plenty of gopro clones from around £20 Yi make some reasonable ones

I don't know where you got you data from 1 picture or frame every 30 mins - 20 pic's or frames a day @ 1080p 3-5mb a pic 60-100mb - a day a video editing program will be able to batch import the pictures - Even if you did it every 15 min your only looking at 40 pics over 10 hours - no more than 200mb

I think cheapest option would be to buy a cheap "GoPro" type camera that allows timelapse amd has a waterproof housing. Not sure how long battery would last but could probably hook up a power cable to it if needed? One of the mounts could be permanently fixed to something so you could remove the camera at the end of each day (and download card) but put back in the axact same possition the next day.

I tried to use tether software with my DSLR's worked OK for a short time, however the camera batteries were limiting factor, I then bought a dash cam from Lidi, not with idea of time lapse, I wanted a camera with a wide angle lens, so tried as a dash cam, yes it works, but who wants to watch even a trip through the most beautiful countryside in real time? However it has a one frame per second mode, that works well, fast enough not to be jerky in car (although not push bike) and slow enough so it does not take an age to view. It works well, I use a phone recharge battery pack when doing wild life as internal battery very small.
