I have not used my radio in years, every so often I revalidate my licence, but that is about it. I have kept all the old equipment, including an Amiga computer and still have the old BayCom modem, and Amicom software. But no aerial fitted at moment.
Packet radio required there to be other people also running packet to relay the info, so not worth me erecting aerials if no longer used. So is it used any more, and do I actually need aerials or can I connect to the system with broad band, if so can I connect the BayCom to a PC, or Amiga to a PC?
If there is no longer Packet using the AX25 protocol then the old Amiga may as well go in the bin, but if it is still up and running then erecting and aerial and dusting off the old FT290R with MicroWaves linear so 25W seems a good idea.

Re: What digitial coms are still up and running?
packet is a bit quite these days, most comm's are done over the internet and you can pop up on local repeaters around the world - IRLP
You do sometimes come across a bit of sstv (2m) and rtty on the hf bands
Don't bin the amiga they are now "retro" and fetch good money even old broken A500's go for £30 without psu's or tuners, A1200's go for £130-170 depending on condition, A2000/A3000/A4000 fetch over a grand working
