Tablet, no wi fi?

Post by Someone-Else »

I have an old samsung tablet, it can have a sim card, but I never use it, so took it out years ago.
Just recently I wanted to connect to wi-fi (here at home) and the tablet does not know what wi-fi is, it tries to look for it, then switches off the wi-fi option.
Its not that it can't find my wi-fi, it can't find any wi-fi
(It really did used to connect to wi-fi as it could surf the www, but not any more)

Its not got anything important on it so i did a factory re start (twice now) same problem.

I have found an old sim, installed it and still nothing on wi-fi (sim is PAYG and has credit)

Seems like Blue tooth has the same problem. I have also found out, its 4 years old

Any useful suggestions?

Yes, but this is not a laptop, its a tablet.

Tablets don't use dongles (most can't, no USB slot) also I did say it did used to work as I used to surf the www on it

Think of a tablet as a poor mans ipad (only better)

Have you tried to connect it to other wifi networks, such as the one at your local pub or something?

if its the original Samsung tab (about 8mm thick) its fully loaded wifi/bt/3g the wifi is 2.4 ghz only

go into settings and turn on wifi it should show a list of the ssid's in range, Other things to check is it not defaulted into hotspot mode, and the metered connection is not enabled

Did you do a hard reset or just a reset (doesn't remove apps or settings) do you have a sd card installed, If so remove it

does it have the latest firmware if not plug it in to a pc and use the Samsung Kies or smart switch for pc (android 4.3 onwards)

As I said, it does not know what wi-fi is, so it can't connect to ANY wi-fi

wi-fi will not turn on, that is the problem.

I don't know what reset I have done, I told it to default and go back to factory settings. i dont know if it has because it never had any thing on it anyway, i only used it to look at pictures on the micro sd card (yep, took that out and tried still no joy) and surf the www.

I thought kies was obsolete? i thought i saw something about it a while ago, as it used to come with samsung devices and now it doesn't.

I have a Samsung tablet about the same age which I haven't used for a while now. I had the same problem but sorted it but I can't remember how I done it

I think I had to get my broadband provider to change channels but I'm not sure.#

If it comes to me I'll let you know.

Mine was £99.99, but I do believe my other one was closer to £150, so yes they are coming down in price.
