2004 Nissan Primera stalling after high revs

Post by Fletcherl9 »

Hi, I am hoping someone can shed some light on the problem I am having...
My 2.0 petrol Primera is stalling after high revs, usually when stopping at junctions etc.
Today when parked up I reved the engine up and when the revs came back down it cut out, however if I only rev up to 2500 rpm it returns to idling no problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Just a quick update, it only does this when the engine is at temperature, it is fine when it’s cold

what Year ? is it the SR20 (P11) ? or later QR20 (P12)

ICV (idle control valve) or throttle body - I would carefully clean the throttle body with carb cleaner,

Not 100% sure but depending on year it may use a MAF (mass airflow meter) I would check it with a scan tool to see what its reading

Stop 'revving it' - what purpose does doing it achieve? Just turn the engine off.

It's akin to 'my head hurts' - 'so stop banging it against a wall then!'
Don't take it personally......

04 it will have a TB and MAF, it may have a code logged in the ecu but not may not put the money light on

It happens intermittently when I stop at junctions or lights, I had a suspicion that it only happened if I was at higher rpm before I stopped, I reved it when I was parked to confirm that this was the case. In future it might be worth only posting on a topic if you have something of use or constructive to say.

Cleaned the throttle body and it’s working perfectly, thank you for the help. This 30 minute job saved me an expensive trip to the garage.
Thanks again
