Loft Insulation

Hi there I’m hoping to pick your brains for some ideas.

Ive bought a house in France and looking to renovate it. I’m at the point where I need to think about insulating the roof. It looks like it’s been done but it hasn’t been done correctly.

I’ve looked in the loft and I can see the external tiles which are above the rafters. There has been loft insulation put between the rafters and these have been held into place by thin strips of wood. Over time these have fallen down in places so some parts of the roof are insulated and others not. I’m guessing that it will allneed to come out and be replaced.

Thefloor of the roof is concrete so initially I thought I’d lay the insulation directly over the floor and board over it but now that I see it’s concrete I’m thinking this might be labour intensive.

Would people recommend I insulate Within thé roof rafters under the tiles. Should these not be sealed before the insulation goes in? It doesn’t seem to make sense if they are going to get damp. Also I don’t know how this will affect the air circulation.

I will probably end up getting a professional to come and do the work but initially wanted to see what people thought would be the best course of action for insulating it effectively.

to batton the inside of the rafters used to be comon as a way to hold the insulation in place

first suggestion is to clear all the roof rafters of all the battons and add a layer of breathably membrane tyvek is a version, theres many more,
the idea is to stop the drafts as that carries heat out and carries cold drafts in.
