Hi, I'm looking at replacing the stock head unit in my 06 KA with a newer bluetooth speaker, originally Halfords were going to fit it but I decided I'd be better off giving it a go myself and saving £50. I've bought a fascia kit with all the relevant bits and pieces. I've watched a video on how to do it so I feel relatively comfortable doing it, just wondering if I'd need the radio code at any point and if so what I'd do with it? I haven't been a car owner for long so I'm quite inexperienced with anything technical.
As far as I'm aware I have to
1) Remove current unit
2) Fit current unit with new fascia, and harness adaptors
3) ???
I appreciate any help which someone can offer me.

Re: Ford KA '06 Bluetooth Radio Installation
Just replacing a speaker shouldn't need the radio code, if you disconnect the power from the radio then you will need it.
If it's a Ford fitted radio, any Ford dealer should be able to tell you the code if you give them the right info about the vehicle. It's worth getting the code and noting it down somewhere whether you need it right now or not.

One day it will all be firewood.

Re: Ford KA '06 Bluetooth Radio Installation
The idea of a radio code is to make the radio less attractive to thieves. Many years ago it was common for someone to break into your car and steal just the radio (Some were very expensive) The radios then were all complete (apart from the speakers) The the government told car makers to make cars less easy to break into and steal from, one of the things that was done (apart from making the radio into two parts) was to have a radio code. The idea is that if the radio is down powered in any way when it is re-powered it will not work unless the radio code is entered. For example, if your car battery failed and you change it to a new one, the radio would be down powered and not work until the radio code is entered. (That said I had that happen and the batteries were changed within a couple of minutes and the radio still worked.) But I would advise not doing anything unless you have your radio code. (It is often in the "audio manual" or on a little card that came with the car.)

Re: Ford KA '06 Bluetooth Radio Installation
Radio code was a great idea back in the day when it took all of 10 seconds to pop out a radio. My radio (11 year old car now) is integrated behind a massive fascia panel and would take ages to remove and require several tools. Radio code seems a waste of time

its fairly straight forward, make sure you have the correct adapters (most common one people forget is the aerial adapter) If a Halfords employee can do it, im sure you can, only tools you need are a set of release single din keys
