Steve,

You're a beginner, I'm female so I need all the help I can get to choose the right screw for the job too.

I've still got an old Readers Digest DIY manual from the late 60's I use for this stuff, have to convert to metric one day.

I still have BSF & BSW spanners in my garage won't fit the Volvo though unless I stick a metal rule alongside the nut as well.

Presume you already know that BSF (british standard fine) and BSW (British standard whitworth) spanners apply to specific thread sizes not head sizes...
if not you do now. :thumbright:

Thanks Bludall, got to use my Ryobi impact driver for the first time today, its brilliiant. Bought this and a few other Ryobi one+ tools after reading reviews on this site. Thanks to all

I want a Bosch PMF 180E but will have to wait now! The tool reviews are good.

an old bloke i worked with used to say "if you can't fix it with a 1/4 whitworth spanner then it's not worth fixing" :lol:

Yes and I also know that a 10mm spanner fits a 0 BA nut and the threads are the same TPI but with a different pitch, and a 14lb maul beats the sh*t out of a smart#rse, no offence taken.
