Tiling, Backer boards and Tanking

Post by Joelc »

Hi All,

Looking for some advice on the recommended way to board out my bathroom in preparation for tiling
Here is the scenario.

Bathroom is back to brick (3 walls brick, one stud - see picture, stud is in red)

Shower will be built into an enclosure where the stud wall is. Tiles will be 300x600 tiles, so reasonably heavy.

The shower and bath areas in particular will need additional protection for water ingress, however i am not sure what route I should go. Should I aqua panel (or alternative) the shower enclosure, the wall where the toilet is, and then the wall where the bath is, or should I use MR plasterboard for the whole bathroom, and then tank the shower and bath areas. I'm not sure what the best route is.

Finally, for the ceiling in the bathroom, should I use MR boards and then skim, or will normal plasterboard be suitable, if it makes any difference, the ceiling will be lowered by about 250mm across the entire room

Thanks for any advice in advance.
