Dash Board

Hi All

I’m attempting to build a dash for a single seater race car . I have sourced some carbon fibre effect ABS which I plan to cut to size using a jigsaw. The problem I have is that I need the top edge to have a lip which covers up a part of the chassis (for aesthetics more than anything). How could I go about forming this lip? The dash is basically semi circle shaped and is made out of fibre glass at the moment. Looking for some ideas?

With care & youtube, it is not difficult to use fibreglass - take your time, small doses, build up the thickness layer by layer. Lots of cheap rubber gloves, good ventilation, use disposable implements you're prepared to throw away. For instance, chinese paint brushes from a pound shop, yoghurt pots and the cut down bottoms of drinks bottles, kindling sticks for mixing.

One would use the existing dash (with release agent) to make a mould, then start with the carbon fibre abs against the mould then.....

Thanks for your reply. I have used fibreglass quite extensively and was hoping not to use it for the new dash. I would like it all to be carbon fibre effect ABS. Unless there are any other suggestions I may just see what it looks like just bolted to the chassis without the kip.

I was thinking that you could have a play with a silicone mould kit see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyQmEG9qmfw the kits are around £20 on Amazon. It just needs a bit of thought on the shape forming say plasticine to see where you are going.

For one off molds I tend to use modelling clay (non firing stuff) - personally I would model something in fusion 360 and have it cnc milled
