Hosepipes
I have an outside tap and bought myself a bog standard hosepipe like my neighbours.I used the connectors supplied but water leaks or spurts out of the top.My neighbour tried a few times to fit it and put waterproof tape round it etc but it still leaks. I had a look today at other connectors and saw one which said threaded. Is this better? Not sure what it meant.

Maybe you should post a picture of what your outside tap looks like?
Threaded means just what it says, the part in question has a thread.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Buy some decent fittings either brass or Hozelock ones,
most outside taps (bibcock) are threaded either 1/2" or 3/4" and come with a spigot that screws on to the outlet

The one I was looking at was Hozelock. Been out to my tap,my neighbour had put the old one back on with the unsuccessful tape. I couldn't get it off so will see if someone can sort it for me tomorrow.

Been there, and done that - and learnt my lesson
The cheap hose fittings rarely seal properly, within a few months the weather gets to them - if your unlucky they let go when your using the hose and get a soaking
