New build has white fuzzy mold(?) near damp proofing

Post by sarahlouise »

Please help! We moved into our new build home 10 months ago and I've just noticed this morning that all along the length of the side of the house there is a white fuzzy residue about three bricks high) - it was two weeks ago when I last put a bin out and I'm pretty sure it wasn't there then or certainly not this obvious!) There are a handful of patches along the front and back of the house approx one brick high but nothing as alarming as the side of the house. I'm *assuming* it's a damp/damp proof membrane issue but could be wrong?

Having moved from an old house with terrible issues with serious mold, condensation, dam proofing problems, I seriously don't want to have an ongoing problem in our new home. Help! :help:

PS I'm attempting to attach photos but it's not working on my phone so I'll upload them later when I'm next on my computer

It is nothing to worry about it is called efflorescence and it is the salts in the sand used in the mortar that have dried and crystallised on the surface. It is a common occurrence. You can get various treatments but quite frankly with it being a new build I would not do anything as it takes a while for it all t leech out.

Fab, thank you for your speedy reply. I've seen this leaching efflorescence on other houses, it was just rlwith it running along a straight line at this kind of height that got me worrying. Cheers :-)
