2 way lighting switch new colours

2 way lighting switch new colours

this switch controls upstairs light plus bathroom, i’ve pulled it off and the wires are connected properly
there 8 wires in total plus a bridge , there are 4 main wires coming into the back , i won’t mention the earths they are still intact
there is 2 x black sleeved brown
1 x grey brown sleeved
plus 5 brown
the light switch has markings like this

2 2
but no idea how to put them back

You will either have to do it by trial and error or get some one in to do it for you (By trial and error.)

There is no definitive rule that says this wire will go here and that colour will go there, it is up to the person who wired it as to what colour does what.

Step one label each wire, that way you can record what it does, take a photo before disconnecting any more, and then test to see what wires are always line, may be putting them into a connector block.

But often you can also work it out from other switches, in the main two way lights have three wires, simple on/off two wires, and in the main the wire in the com of one two way switch must be same as wire in com of other two way switch.

Show is common way wired, but not all wired that way.
