2 Gang light switch issue
Hi I have a 2 gang light switch in my hallway that controls 4 lights . One of the switches has broken off so now I can only turn on one light now. Bought a replacement but the existing switch when I took it off looks odd. On the right hand switch there are three terminals and three wires ( all brown). Terminals are the com ,l1 and l2 . On the left hand switch (the one that’s fallen off) there are 4 terminals and 4 wires (all brown) , l1,l2 and l1,l2. I havent seen a 2 gang 2 way switch like this before and can’t seem to find one that matches this terminal configuration. Is this a particular type of switch, an intermediate or something similar? Thanks in advance !

Picture of existing switch would help, but it does sound like you have an intermediate grid switch. Also, if it has "fallen off" why can't you put it back?

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

Intermediate and double pole switches have 4 terminals, an intermediate is used when you have more than two switches with two way lighting, and a double pole switch is used for out door lights to stop neutral to earth problems if water gets in.
Pictures are good.

Hi thanks for the replies I have added a couple of pics hope these help. Three wires all off same cable going into right portion which has three terminals including com and 4 wires all off same cable going into left hand which has 4 terminals 2xl1 and 2xl2. I have a bit of insulating tape over the switch that broke off ( the clips on the rocker switch snapped) to stop the kids accidentally sticking fingers into the gap and touching a contact
