Also purchased some forstner type wood bits from Aldi , these were next to useless until sharpened. They are fine now.
I do tend to sharpen everything I can including flat bits
Are Aldi drill bits any good?

A lot of bits are better after sharpening. I've got some flat bits with a shortened point and "spurs" when I needed to drill some specific sized flat bottom holes.
You can only use them in the drill press of course, but they make quite a decent job.

My experience with SS is drilling sheet materials from Rimex and such like , which are patterned by the sheet being passed through rolls cold so the material tends to be quite hard having work hardened. Some is annealed and often chemically polished thereafter.i always found the biggest cause of drill failure was the drill rubbing and not cutting heat causing the cutting edge to fail. Hence my comment re lubrication and pressure.

I've not tried Aldi's drill bits, might be worth a go if I'm in there sometime soon.
If you're looking for something cheap enough to throw away, Wellcut are usually pretty decent too, I get them from Removed. please read the rules. Mod 2and can't complain too much
Let me know how Aldi bits do if anyone tries them

As a new maker with restricted budget, I’ve purchased quite a few tools from Aldi and so far I’ve only had a problem with one of them. The drill bits I received work fine.
