What’s under the woodchip?

Post by Naeboer »

We’re trying to strip the woodchip wallpaper from the hallway of our Victoria semi but when I peeled a little bit back it was this underneath? What is it? Not plaster?

What’s under the woodchip?

If the woodchip is on the left, then the paper on the right could be some sort of Lincrusta or Anaglypta.
One day it will all be firewood.

where you have peeled the paper back happens to be filled with parrot stuffing the brown stuff if undercoat plaster or browning with a thin lime plaster on top (beige colour)

edit, the paper is a blown vinyl not woodchip what makes life a bit easier

The wallpaper is irrelevant - you can use a hired steamer to easy remove it back to the skim finish plaster.
If the white layer is the skim then its maybe lime putty plaster from back in the day.
Steam and scrape off all the paper and then take photos of the background and post them here.
