Potential dangerous flue position

Post by GO1978 »

My neighbour has installed a wood burner in her property and the flue is about 1,000mm away from my building but does not rise 600mm above my building. I am concerned about carbon monoxide and smoke entering my property and in particular my daughters bedroom which you can see on attached photographs (hopefully they have uploaded ok)

I believe the installation is in breach of building regulations. I have contacted building control at my council and a surveyor will be looking at it but no time frame was given.

My neighbour claims the installer (HETAS registered apparently) fitted a fan that “pushes” gases etc above my property and that it is safe to use the fire with the flue in its current position. I see a draft booster on the flue but that is all. I’m not sure i believe her claims and need some reassurance.

Please can you advise, are there products available that would allow her flue to be sited within 1000mm of my property but not rise 600mm above my property which would allow it to comply with building regulations?

Any help would be appreciated.

Potential dangerous flue position

Sadly our resident stove expert stopped posting 18 months ago, so while you are waiting for the BCO I can only suggest you buy a carbon monoxide alarm like This one Other carbon monoxide alarms are available.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

ask them for the installation spec and burner type along with the installation certificate
https://www.hetas.co.uk/consumer/certif ... ompliance/
https://www.direct-fireplaces.com/resou ... ll%20Pages
look up part "J" off building regs
https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/2 ... ge_systems
ask them what wood they are burning as now i think you are limited to pellets or fully seasoned wood that would require room for a ton or so well seasoned wood in there garden
there is no legal requirement to tell you any information you ask directly but they must comply with the legal requirements connected to a wood burner
the idea off asking these questions is to suggest you are a bit more informed so cant be fobbed off so easilly :dunno:
