Took the plunge and Bought a Makita 18v Twin Pack (Drill and Impact Driver) For years have wanted to go cordless on my power tools and so glad I did. I would be a light user mainly a maintain my own car and do some diy.
The Twin pack is a DHP483 Drill and a DTD156 Impact Driver both manufactured in 2020. When I got them both battery's had no charge, none of the battery's power bars were showing, would not operate the drill apart from the led light on the Impact Driver. Both Battery's charged fine.
I know Ion Battery's should not be stored or kept fully discharged, should I be worried that the battery's have been damaged or is there a battery protection circuit built in?
Thanks in advance

li-ion batteries should and can be fully charged and left for months on end a fully charged battery should be fine for at least 6-8 months off no use but worth a ckeck in say 3 and 6 months to check at least 2 bars are alight [assuming a 3 bars indicator ]then expect the whole year without charging
if it has a 4 bars indicator then if it 2 at six months a full charge will save a further visit
often batteries are have a low charge for transport as there is a very high level off energy in lithium batteries that can be released in seconds so need a low energy [charge ]level to comply with safe general transportation levels
as a general guide a 5ah battery will contain 5x18x60 5400 watts for a minute that will happily give say 900w for 5 or six mins so mains performance
but on the flip side if no protection it could be a kw for 30 seconds or 2kw for 15 seconds where as a 2ah nicad on dead short may be perhaps 500-600w for perhaps 3 mins and get very hot where as a lithium will get hot enough to turn into a flame thrower if fully charged
