Hi, I live in a new house thats 4 years old since it was built, unfortunatly you coulkd only get them out to lookn at problems for 2 years and i am rubbish with diy / electrics :(
Basically we have a light outside our door which goes on automatically with a sensor, it recently went off and i have tried about 3 different bulbs in it, none will work, they have been tested in other sockets and light fine.
If you are close to the light you hear a little click when it comes on and you still hear that now if you leave the switch on but the light just won't come on.
I do actually own multimeters but aren't really up on how to use them so don't feel confident prodding in a live circiut lol
The other thing i read was could be corroded connection but now sure.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what i could do?
Thanks
James

If the lamp works, then its either a bad connection or the sensor has failed. If you don't feel confident, then you have no choice, you will need to get someone to look at it. It does NOT have to be an electrician.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.
Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

You need a COMPETENT person to look at it. As stated, no necessarily an electrician but someone who is familiar with electrics and using a test meter. It might be easier to just take a look-see and try to identify anything obvious - as corrosion or a loose wire might be - so see if you can take a lid off and post some pictures here and we might be able to advise accordingly.
Don't take it personally......

May be less hassle over all to replace the whole unit. If you're not confident get someone in to do it.
