Hi, the attached photo shows the ceiling rose in place.
I have an LED ceiling light Id like to use, but it has standard neutral, live and earth connections.
Can I use it? And if so, how do those wires get connected?
Thanks.

Can this light be used?

The SAFEST way would be to pull the rose down enough to see where those grey-ey-green wires come from - they should be the sleeved earth (normally exposed copper) wires as part of any normal twin-core and earth arrangement albeit in the old red/black standard.
Could be a colour-fade issue but those wires that look 'grey-ish' would be the earth wiring. Wire your new light where the drop cable is situated (brown and blue) and connect the earth wire to the 'grey-ey-green' wires.
Safer still would be to use a DOUBLE-INSULATED light fitting (normally supplied without an earth wire) and just connect to the red/black (brown/blue) terminals.

Don't take it personally......

If you can check the green is Earth which should be. The rose wiring is tidy. Connect your new lights as kellys_eye said.

Must be my eyes, they look green to me.
Rhetorical question:
If the OP could / knows how to check the earth, why would he be asking how to connect the light.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

I'm guessing the led light has a different ceiling fixing which means all the wires need to come out of these terminal blocks and connected into the new led light fixing (which may be configured in a different style, depending on the style I'd check that there is room for the wires to connect into the terminals, I've came across a couple of fixings where it's a struggle to get just 2 wires into the terminal which is sealed into the fixing.Someone-Else wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 5:37 pm
