Accessing sealed light in bathroom

Post by ichicc »

Hi all

This is my first post on these forums and I'm hoping someone will be able to help.

I have recently moved into a new house and the light in the bathroom above the shower unit has stopped working. I believe I need to change the bulb but can't for the life of me figure out how to get access to the old one. Unlike the light fixtures in the rest of the house, where you can get access to the GU10 bulb with a simple squeeze, this one seems to be held behind a plastic ring which itself appears to be sealed on to the ceiling with silicone. Please see the photos attached.

If anyone could offer instructions on what I need to do then it'd be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

The bezel unscrews anti clockwise.

Thanks for the warm welcome. It seems like there is a bead of sealant around the bezel - I take it this shouldn't be there as it's preventing any kind of unscrewing motion? Can I just cut it off with a knife?

Yes use a sharp utility knife, don't rush.

Just thinking, maybe the sealant is to hold the bezel there? (it's not supposed to be there)
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
