Backerboard advice

Hi all,

Sorry for amateur questions, this is my first venture into bathrooms.

I’ve gutted one section for backerboard and tiling. Lots of lovely gypsum dust all over. Is it just a case of spraying this and then dot and dab whilst damp?

Also, I’ve got a window board coated in old tile adhesive. What the best way to sort this? Can I just rip this thing out and bang a new one in?!
