Replacement for AU-60T dimmable transformer with dual input

Post by Sarah m »

Hi, I m helping my mum replace the transformers in her kitchen as many have gone and she can't see well. I thought it would be straightforward as I ve done it before in mine, however she has dual input transformers aurora AU-60T that have 2 lives, 2 neutrals and 2 earths going into them. I ve attached a pic.
I ve searched the Internet for a replacement and they appear to be discontinued and I am struggling to find something else that csn cater for dual input.
I really want to avoid her having to pay someone to rewire if possible.
Please help!
Thank you!

The doubled-up wires are whats called a loop, simply join the two wires together in a chocblock then from that use a short single wire into the transformer. Any 60 watt dimmable transformer will work (as long as the lights are not LED, in which case you would need a constant current led driver).

Don't turn the light switch on while you're doing this.

As said it is simply to allow transformers to be daisy chained, the other option is a junction box, there are today electronic transformers which go from zero to 60 watt, so they can power LED lamps. But LED lamps can cause problems as you can get AC only and DC only versions, and some of the AC only it has to be 50 Hz so a toroidal transformer not an electronic transformer is required. Most are AC/DC but I have found some marked 50 Hz.

A driver is a DC current regulated supply, but the lighting industry has made a habit of poor naming, so also get DC voltage regulated power supplies called drivers by manufacturers, they seem to name a new item after the item it replaced, so an electronic transformer replaced the toroidal transformer which was all well and good until LED came out and they would not work on existing electronic transformer but worked OK on the old toroidal transformers which last for decades so still common.

The chocblock also needs to be in a chocbox.

Or use these (or similar)
