Nasboxes - Are they safe?
I have been using NAS devices for many moons never had an issue, just don't use it for online services
Brand wise Qnap and Synology, but they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for, if you want peace of mind go for a device with 2 or more drives and use raid or Hybrid raid

Any 'non-internet connected' device is totally safe from any scrutiny other than by those that have access to it locally.
There are, of course, some good encryption technologies around that, if needed, could resolve any worries you might have.

I can only echo the comments of others, if you only allow local access the you are minimising the risk of unauthorised access.
