New Palm Sander

Post by dewaltdisney »

Years ago I bought a Powerpro palm sander from BnQ for £20'ish. It has given good service for must be 15 years but decided to die on me. Now I do not need one that often but I know I will need one sooner or later so I have kept a lookout for a new cheap one. Now being parsimonious, some might say a mean b*stard, I did not want to pay the going rate for one from Screwfix or Toolstation. By chance, I spotted Argos had a Challenge one for £15 which I got today. I have to say it is great value for £15, it is the long triangular velcro pad type with a dust port, everything I need really. It is the same as the (out of stock) McAllister £19.98 at Screwfix.

I noticed this one as a close second, what a bargain https://www.screwfix.com/p/festool-dtsc ... nder/480hh

Used with dust collection the little sander is amazing

You're not getting good value Walt! :hiding:
I bought my B & D Proline palm sander back in around 87 or 88.
Can't remember how much it was now.
25 quid or so I reckon.
Still going strong, and it's done a load of work.
(You watch it pack up the next time I use it!)
I also bought a little triangular sander from B & Q probably 20 years ago, type with the long handle and small head.
It was silly money, they had a load in a basket, no boxes or anything, £5.99 or something. I bought it to see if I could use one for my work.
Again done loads with it.

You pushed the boat out Dave, £25 in 1988 must be the equivalent of about £300 today. Incidentally, I did get by using my Bosch PMF 180 as it has a sanding pad fitment. It was so bloody noisy I had to wear ear defenders.

Ah you know me Walt, no expense spared!
Hang on, I've got to catch me breath after making such a blasphemous statement!
In real life I make Arkwright of "Open All Hours" look like the last of the big spenders!

Seriously though, stuff like power tools was more expensive in relative terms back then.
I bought my first cordless drill driver around that time. A Bosch Professional, which IIRC was around £120 on offer. That is around £325 today apparently.
