hi can anyone tell me the exact height from the floor that a door handle should be fitted to an interior door, sound a stupid question i know, but we removed all our doors a long time ago will building work on house and cant remeber if there is an exact measurement rather than guessing and it looks stupid
Has a guide between 900 & 1m to the centre of the spindle. But some say if the door as a midrail then this is the position / height of the door handle.
On doors that are hollow (hardboard faced), if you look at the top edge of the door, you'll see a mark saying "lock" or a picture of a key at one end. This tells you which side the "lock block" is located, and it's halfway down and will be about 300mm long, this is where you fix the lock!
thanks for that all of you, the doors im fitting are fire doors which is why i asked as the door is solid and handle can go anywhere (within reason)
will measure to approx 3ft from floor as average of all of yours.
Thank you

sorry but thats total wrong, fitting the lock at the midrail on a mortise and tenon door destroys the tenon and weakens the door

Ellie - I wish you were correct in that my doors looked that nice - but yup, that is the sort of door I have, but not well cared for (but that is another post )
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
