Laser test

Post by oz0707 »

Working in a big hall atm so thought I'd test the laser.
Hall is 10mx17m set laser up either end, marked the walls and measured distance between. Was 14mm one side and 9mm tho other! Amazingly I got the book out and this is within spec. A difference of 5mm between walls. Ok it's a big room but I was suprised at the difference. Bosch recommend a 5x5m room to test. The calculation is something like distance between walls x 2, x 0.3mm per metre, ie 20x0.3mm for my test.

Checked it for plumb too but this uses a doorway and you only test it 2.5m either side. There was no noticeable deviation between the sides but I suspect if tested over a bigger area would work out to the same difference.

Anyone else test theirs? What kind of difference do you get?

Laser test

What model do you have?

I have an old DeWalt DW088 and a Stabila LAX 300 both red. When I tested them over about 10m they were both within a mm or so. I was actually really impressed

As a big Milwaukee user I was really looking forward to the new levels but at the thick end of £600 they are a ridiculous price
I think I'll take two chickens...

It's a Bosch not sure of model. Don't get me wrong it's always been ok for what I've asked of it. Gives me a nice level line for a kitchen and a nice straight plumb line for marking up a stud.
This was a proper test though set up at either end of the room and see how accurate the difference between the two lines is. Its within spec so I can't complain I think a room like this can just highlight any discrepancy.
