Bell Syphon Toilet Cistern

Post by Chippo1 »

Was asked by a local charity if I could look at this toilet in a small outbuilding to the rear of a courtyard to rear of the shop. The intention is to serve tea and coffee offering seats n tables in the courtyard.

Plumber already looked and condemned it , he had filled the cistern, the ball valve was kaput , and it would not flush.

So had a look , few taps with a small hammer freed the mechanism , and bingo it flushed 2 gallons of very rusty water.

Removed the cistern , de rusted it and gave it 3 coats of Hammerite. Fitted a new ball valve , all now ready for refitting.

What a simple design , other than ball valve nothing to go wrong, big flush though so uses a lot of water.

It’s fitted now and works a treat , serious flush .

The original pan looked terrible , but two minutes with a green scouring pad and it looks like new.

The flush pipe leaked at the cistern connection , but a rummage through my sack of plastic waste fittings came up with a soft rubber tapered washer of the right size , smear of silicone grease and it worked a treat , just need a new chain now .

Razor , I have rescued the lead over flow and reconnected it , the supply has already been run in copper by the plumber that said it wouldn’t work , so just added a isolation valve and connected it to the ball cock ! , is a ball cock PC?
