Shared neutral?

Post by roofmonkey »

I was changing a light fitting today, I switched off the circuit breaker for the lighting but when I touched one of the wires (not sure witch one) the power circuit switched off. I am thinking that a shared neutral could be the issue here. Can I leave it or could it be dangerous if it is a shared neutral. Obviously locating the connection could be a real nightmare. Thanks for any help.

If it was off how could it switch off again?

I would guess you mean the RCD tripped? If so chances are you touched a neutral to earth, this would cause the RCD to trip, but it is nothing to worry about.
Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
