Poor coving joint

Post by Orbit75 »

Hi, we recently had our ceilings plastered and new coving put up with supercove. Overall, it's a good job, but in a couple of places the coving is misaligned so that the bottom and top are at different levels. Is there anything I can do such as using filler or sanding one side down to level them? Thanks for any help, Carl.

Get some coving adhesive and build the gap up and feather it out over a few inches so it is a gentle undulation. When dry sand it smooth into a continuous line. I have made some right balls ups doing coving I can never get the corner cuts right in my mind but the adhesive 'filler' gets it right losing the gaps.

Thanks, I'll give it a go. It's good to know it can be made better. Just one other thing if you don't mind. He also filled all the gaps with filla and it will need sanding. But I'm not sure what to use as it's polyurethane foam and quite delicate. Is it ok to sand, and what grade? Thanks for your help.

This is why DWD said build up with a filler then sand that, though it doesn't need to be coving adhesive - that's for the real McCoy coving - filler such as Le Toupret (S/Fix) would do.

Supercove is polyurethane foam covered with paper, you'll be in trouble if you go through the paper.

120 grit lightly, 180 better or even 240 and take your time if you want it right.
