Vauxhall vivaro van loss power uphill on motorway

Post by Willz »

Hi My vauxhall vivaro van has problem driving uphill especially on motorway. I usually add around half pint engine oil then the vehicle driving fine before going onto motorway.
Now the oil level is almost on maximum. I may not be able to add more oil now. Fuel filter changed a few months ago. Oil and oil filter changed last month. However Oil level has once been low for a while before. Van starts fine no misfire or strange noise during driving. Seems no oil leaking or obviously burned during long distance motorway driving. I do drive a lot over 500 miles per week regularly on motorway twice per week for around 130 miles. 2007 plate almost 200k milage.
Thanks for help

Haven't ask garage to check yet. I may book to check on weekend.
Couple light on dashboard followed by incident with watter into diesel tank happened last August but supposed to sort it out already by draining the fuel and have changed fuel filter several times although light still there including engine check light and esp light. I believe fuel injector still work fine.

Since march the van hard to accelerate when uphill. But i forgot to check oil level at that time. Low oil level might be low for quite a while. As far i can add half pint oil before going motorway the van drive fine for long distance. But within days the van struggles again on motorway if i dont topup fresh oil.

What's the engine temperature doing when it loses power?
Has it got the right dipstick fitted?
Seems funny that if it's half a pint down on oil, it's doing this.

Are you measuring the oil level correctly? (hot engine, ignition off, wait 15 minutes then check it's between the marks on the stick)

How about the air filter? Motorway revs are what 2000-3000 rpm? Higher the revs the more air - blocked air filter gets useless mileage and poor power. Lastly (but not leastly) the EGR valve.
Don't take it personally......

Engine temperature is fine i believe. Cooling Fan never activated once vehicle turned off.
The dipstick should be ok as i once asked garage to check oil level.

Very weird. I wonder whether the turbo is problematic as the van has been on driving for quite a while with low oil level. But as far as i topup oil around half pint before onto motorway the van drive no problem even at time when oil level is low

Oil level check is ok i believe. The garage may have not put enough oil during service skmehow. The oil level was flashing when i drove on motorway and vehicle did not not speed up as expected that i have to stop in service and topup oil to let van work properly. .within 4 week i may have added around 4l oil into the van
