Hi
I need to order a 240V jigsaw today, which one would you recommend:
1. Makita M45301: 450W, variable speed, max cut wood/steel 6/65mm, weight 1.9KG @~ £37
2. Mac Allister MSJS600: 600W, constant speed, max cut wood/steel 8/80mm, weight 2.3KG @ ~ £25.00
Both do more or less the same: Bevel, 4 orbital/pendulum settings, 3000spm, universal fitting, brushed motor....etc
"1" or "2" replies is sufficient
Thanks

why not get yasel along to b£q or the like and see if they have either in stock? i once used a macallister jig saw and it was an awful chunky geet heavy thing.
my own preference as a joiner is for a body grip jigsaw not a top handle one. theyre much more controlable i find for the few times they are actually necessary to use

Even I worked that one out "yourself along to B&Q" that and others like Wickes is where you can get the feel of the tool, I have a Bosch and Pro which is heavy, has a trigger lock button which is too easy to set but has the twist chuck, the Bosch is nicer but needs a screwdriver to change blades (there are two blade root types so investigate prices etc) for me a jigsaw is just that, needs to be light and manoeuvrable.

m y son-in-law purchased the barrel Grip dewalt in 2019 & I had my normal dewalt jigsaw, as we were putting a new laminated floor down around the ground floor, we needed a few cuts requiring a jigsaw, trying them both out, the barrel grip was so much easier to control and get an accurate cut, i was surprised at the difference it made.
However £199 v the £25/£37 price point of the other 2 jigsaws being considered , would make this a non-starter for the OP

yea i could not go back. also having used cheaper jigsaws v more expensive there is a massive difference. probably getting ontowards as much as the difference between the dewalt stuf and the maffell jigsaw which is a completely different level again... but then it is in the range of £500 for that tool

At the end, I used my 20 year old RedDevil jigsaw bought from currys, it's pain to use, very slow but did the job, was working on chipboards.
I still need to buy one no rush...
